Self Defense is Not a Sport
In a streetfight, aggravated assault, mugging (or any other random act of violence), there are no rules. There are only deadly consequences. Our class instruction centers on the unique challenges you would face in such a violent confrontation, and teaches you how to focus your mind, calm your fears and escape with your life intact, as quickly and safely as possible. Beginners, as well as experts from other styles, find this method to be the most practical, useful, and direct way of self defense and personal protection. This type of training will also increase your strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, movement, and overall health.
Because of the risks involved in the violent encounters, we believe you must train your physical attributes (such as strength, conditioning, and reflexes), as well as your mental focus and emotional regulation. Our programs help develop all of these areas, turning you into a well-rounded, physically and mentally fit practitioner that has the ability to defend yourself and your family, and the understanding of when to walk away from an encounter.
Any time you train yourself to counter violence with violence, you must also learn how to responsibly handle yourself in a moral, ethical and legal manner. By providing you with a range of techniques from our Force Continuum, you will also learn when and where to apply those techniques in a street-dependable, AND court-defendable way.
Self Defense at Southeast Jeet Kune Do
Since 2010, we have provided our members with the skills necessary to survive any random act of violence. Our unique approach does not focus on moves that take you years to master. We teach sound principles that teach you how to defend yourself and give you confidence to proceed forward in any scenario. Our lessons bypass the nonsense of traditional schools and give you the real ability to defend yourself.
We teach our members the same self defense training and programs that have been presented by the Jeet Kune Do Athletic Association for 7 years in a row at the most prestigious Law Enforcement convention in the world, the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA). We are experts in our field and use our knowledge to provide you with the tactics necessary to defend yourself in any scenario.
Our goal is to provide you with a world class formula for self defense. This is the same martial arts system used by Elite Forces, such as Navy Seals, Secret Service, DEA, FBI, SWAT, Homeland Security, US Marshalls, and countless other Military Groups and Government Agencies both nationally and Internationally. We want to equip you and your family with a plan and a fighting chance, should you ever run into a violent situation. Our instruction includes techniques from Jun Fan Gung Fu (Bruce Lee’s Kung Fu!), JKD Kickboxing, Filipino Martial Arts (Kali, Escrima, Arnis), Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Functional Fitness & Action Strength and others like Muay Thai, Savate, and more.
- Jeet Kune Do – We utilize Jeet Kune Do (JKD) as a foundation for everything we teach. JKD is the culmination of Bruce Lee’s research on fighting methods, including principles from Fencing, Western Boxing, modified Wing Chun, and Savate. It was his personal style of fighting and relies heavily on stop-hits, interceptions, timing and distance control. Because of this, Jeet Kune Do has been called “the ultimate martial art” by Black Belt magazine.
- Filipino Martial Arts – It is from Filipino Martial Arts like Kali, Escrima and Arnis, that teaches you the art of fighting and defensive tactics with weapons, both common and improvised. Common weapons used in class include sticks, knives, bats, swords and even the staff. Modern configurations of these weapons can be used in a variety of street situations.
- Action strength To defend yourself, you must have the physical capabilities to perform the techniques under stress. Physical fitness is a key factor in determining how effective your skills will be utilized. We teach a functional fitness training protocol that combines kettlebells, bodyweight exercises, the Indian mace and even Yoga and Tai Chi that allows you to feel great, develop strength, and move better overall.
- Close Quarter Defense Tactics – As our entire curriculum emphasizes practical self defense methods, the rest of our instruction borrows from arts like Brazilian Jiujitsu, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and MMA. When combined with expert self defense instruction, JKD, and Kali, our Close Quarter tactics includes the full range of fighting possibilities, which include techniques from both standing and grounded positions.
